"These Words of Women" takes place throughout 1963, focusing on women's struggles, their dreams, and their hopes for the future (as well as a few fearful souls, that are determined to hold on to the past). I started working on it after the election, when I had such a feeling of devastation and hopelessness. I assumed that women at that time must have felt similarly after what seemed like steps forward in the battle for civil and women's rights, only then to take massive steps backwards after the church bombing in Birmingham, and ultimately the assassination of JFK.  They are women of different ages, social backgrounds and races.  Each woman we meet, shares their story in their own words through song.
